The office of Dr. Mabel Cheng and Dr. Nicole Lemanski expands language translation to frequently accessed medical literature.
As part of a major effort undertaken by practice administrator Brian Lemanski, the office of Dr. Mabel Cheng and Dr. Nicole Lemanski has been rolling out various non-English translations to commonly accessed medical literature in their online patient education library. These languages include: Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Arabic, Pashto, and Burmese.
“The Capital Region is home to an array of written and spoken languages,” notes Brian. “While real-time language translation services are common in the healthcare setting, they are usually inadequate for patient education purposes. This is because what is routine for healthcare providers is not routine for the patient; most patients cannot fully learn about their medical conditions and treatment options in a single visit.”
The practice’s online patient education library is one of the largest in the Capital Region dedicated to ophthalmology and optometry and is free to access for patient use. All translated materials have been produced by certified medical language interpreters.
