Welcoming Dr. Maureen Sienko, OD
Dr. Maureen Sienko began her eye care career as an optician and ophthalmic technician in 1974, in a program at the Massachusetts College of Optometry. After receiving her biology degree in 1980 and briefly teaching high school biology, she became an optometry student at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA, graduating in 1985 and became a diplomate of the American Board of Optometry later that year.
Dr. Sienko spent four years training with the world-renowned contact lens specialist Dr. Donald Korb in Boston and did additional low vision training at Lighthouse International in New York City with Dr. Eleanor Faye. She completed her residency in Hadassah Hospital’s (Jerusalem, Israel) ophthalmology department, which gave her extensive experience in ocular pathology. Dr. Sienko then moved to the Capital Region where she taught contact lens fitting and refraction to Albany Medical College’s
Ophthalmology residents.
Dr. Sienko has lent her extensive expertise in optometry to patients of numerous institutions around the Capital Region including the New York State Department of Correction’s Maximum Security Prisons as well as psychiatric facilities and the New York State Division of Disability Determination.
Dr. Sienko does both routine and comprehensive eye exams, contact lens fittings, low vision exams, and diagnoses and treats common eye diseases including glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and macular degeneration. She is in the office Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 AM to 5 PM and is accepting new patients.
